The right camera backpack for outdoor, hiking & travel
A good camera backpack protects your gear and is so comfortable to carry that you'll want to take it everywhere – on the trail, on the plane or around town.
compagnon offers two lines: the Performance Line (Element & Adapt) is built for outdoor and travel – weatherproof, ergonomic and with an adaptable camera compartment. The Heritage Line combines naturally tanned German leather with canvas – for anyone who wants to carry their camera discreetly and in style every day.
What to look for when buying a camera backpack
- Carry-on: All Element and Adapt models up to 30 L fit the cabin baggage limits of most airlines. Tip: check your airline's size limits and leave the roll-top compartment empty. The hip belt is removable and can be packed separately.
- Weatherproof, not just water-repellent: our ReGen Carbon AX R material has a hydrostatic head of 20,000 mm – as much as high-end tents. Heavy rain is no problem. It shouldn't be submerged, though: the seams are stitched, so it isn't a welded dry bag. For the most extreme weather, the Element backpacks come with a protective cover included. That keeps everything clean and dry.
- Fit: the 20 L models are made for shorter backs, the 30 L models for medium to long torsos. The trekkpacks have an adjustable back length.
- Flexible camera compartment: removable hook-and-loop dividers adapt the compartment to your gear – from a camera body with lenses to a drone. ProTec padding adds stretch pockets for filters and small accessories.
