With the more compact Trekk 75 L IGU, you can still carry plenty of gear while leaving significantly more room in the backpack for your other travel or trekking luggage.

I'm significantly shorter than 1.70m, but I need a lot of space. Will the 50L Element trekkpack work for me?
The Element trekkpack 50L and 75L are, of course, very large backpacks that offer plenty of space for long hikes, photography trips, expeditions, safaris, and so on. The completely redesigned CarryLite ergo Max features a continuously adjustable size mechanism to ensure a perfect fit for people of all heights. The Element Trekkpack can therefore be easily adjusted to accommodate typical spine lengths for people who are approximately 1.60 m or taller. For people with particularly short or unusually long backs, the only way to be sure is to try it on.
I need the storage space and comfort that trekkpacks offer. Can I fly with a backpack like that?
Like all Element backpacks, trekkpacks also have a removable hip belt. So you can use it as needed or pack it separately in your backpack or suitcase when traveling by plane. The outer shell can also be compressed to save space when the IGU isn’t in the backpack. You can easily find out whether the backpack—even as you’ve packed it—is allowed in the cabin by checking your airline’s boarding conditions.
How do I adjust the backrest system to fit my height?
Step 1: First, release the Velcro fastener, which is hidden behind the top edge of the back padding. Reach with one hand between the aluminum struts behind the top edge of the back padding and release the Velcro fastener behind it. Now you can adjust the fit.
Step 2: Between the back padding and the hip belt, behind the padding of the CarryLite ergo Max system, there is a strap that runs lengthwise through the carrying system. At the top end, there is an adjuster to lengthen or shorten the carrying system. If it is not already at its maximum length, simply pull this adjuster slightly toward you at the bottom edge. You’ll feel a slight indentation for your finger in the adjuster. With a light pull, you can lengthen the strap. To shorten the back section, simply pull slightly on the upper of the two straps coming out of the adjuster.
Step 3: Before use, check that the Velcro fastener from Step 1 is securely fastened again and that your adjustment cannot slip.
How do I remove the ShiftPro hip belt?
You’ll find attachment straps on the left and right outer flaps of the hip belt. You can unthread these. Then reach your hand into the opening between the back system and the hip belt itself. There is an internal Velcro section here. You can release it with your fingers. Then you can easily pull the ShiftPro hip belt out to either side.
Since the trekkpacks are designed for heavy loads in rough terrain, we strongly recommend using them with the ShiftPro hip belt.
Can I swap the Trekk IGUs between models?
The Trekk 75 and Trekk 50 IGUs—the internal gear units—are specifically designed for their respective backpack models. As a result, Trekk 75 IGUs (L and XL) do not fit in the Element Trekkpack 50L. Conversely, while you can use the Trekk 50 IGU in an Element trekkpack 75L, doing so will result in a loss of storage space and stability. For this reason, the IGUs—which are always included in a complete set—are designed for the specific backpack model (50 or 75).
Is the CarryLite ergo Max the most comfortable carrying system by compagnon?
Every CarryLite system we develop is designed first and foremost for comfort and ergonomics. But every backpack or sling places different demands on the carrying system. That’s why the CarryLite ergo Max isn’t automatically the best or most comfortable option—but it does provide exceptional relief and groundbreaking comfort when carrying heavy loads. For a camera with 1–2 lenses and a change of clothes, for example, the CarryLite ergo V2 for the Element Backpack 30L or 20L is the more efficient and practical choice. If you need several heavy telephoto lenses—especially in the 300mm+ range—you’ll need the ergo Max.
